Friedrich Hamel is a German opera singer (bass), born in 1995. He studied vocal at the University of Music, Theatre and Media in Hannover under Peter Anton Ling and Jan-Philipp Schulze. Since the 2024/25 season, he has joined the troupe of the Berlin State Opera "Unter den Linden", where he performs roles including Sarastro in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" and Pietro in Verdi's "Simon Boccanegra".
From 2022 to 2024, Hamel was a member of the International Opera Studio at Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden, performing roles such as Sarastro in Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte," Antonio in "Le nozze di Figaro," Colline in Puccini's "La bohème," Zweiter Soldat in Strauss's "Salome," and Reinmar von Zweter in Wagner's "Tannhäuser." In the 2024/25 season, he joined the ensemble of the same opera house, adding roles like Pietro in Verdi's "Simon Boccanegra" and Farfallo in a new production of Strauss's "Die schweigsame Frau" under Christian Thielemann. Hamel has also performed in productions at the Brandenburger Theater and Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin. His concert repertoire includes works by Bach, Haydn, and Mozart, and he has collaborated with conductors such as Marco Armiliato, Philippe Jordan, Kirill Petrenko, and Simon Rattle.In addition to opera, Hamel is an active recitalist, performing lieder cycles like Beethoven's "An die ferne Geliebte," Schubert's "Winterreise," and Schumann's "Dichterliebe.
