About
The story of the Tölzer Knabenchor goes back to a scout group of the post-war period.
After this group disbanded in 1956, formed the 18 -year-old high school student Gerhard Schmidt a new group, whose musical direction he took over. Since 1971, the rehearsals of the choir are held in Munich. In four stages of education, the choir teaches about 200 boys. Each year they perform worldwide at up to 250 concerts and opera performances. A focal point in the repertoire of the Tölzer Knabenchor is the early music. Important conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Karl Böhm, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado and Nikolaus Harnoncourt have worked with the choir. For recordings, the choir has received numerous awards, including the German and the French Record Prize.
