About

The Puccini Festival 2027 returns to Torre del Lago, the Tuscan setting where Giacomo Puccini found inspiration for some of his greatest works. The 73rd edition centres on the composer’s operatic legacy, with performances at the open-air Gran Teatro all’Aperto Giacomo Puccini from July through August. The season is particularly special as it marks the 110th anniversary of the premiere of La rondine.

The anniversary celebration opens with La rondine on 9 and 17 July, followed by a programme of Puccini favourites. Turandot is presented on 10, 23 and 31 July and 13 and 28 August; Tosca on 16 and 24 July and 6 and 21 August; Madama Butterfly on 30 July, 8 and 20 August; and La bohème on 7, 14 and 27 August. The season also includes Il trittico — Il tabarro, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi — on 22 and 29 August.

The 2027 cast brings together an impressive group of internationally acclaimed singers. Roberto Alagna appears as Ruggero in La rondine, while Alexandra Kurzak and Ermonela Jaho share the role of Magda. Anna Netrebko makes a highly anticipated appearance as Tosca on 21 August, with Ludovic Tézier as Scarpia on 16 July and Vittorio Grigolo as Cavaradossi on 16 and 24 July.

The programme also features major international names including Asmik Grigorian as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly on 20 August, Yusif Eyvazov as Calaf in Turandot on 31 July and as Rodolfo in La bohème on 7 August, and Jonathan Tetelman as Calaf on 10 and 23 July. Maria Agresta, Saioa Hernández, Angela Meade, Lisette Oropesa, Jessica Pratt, Ekaterina Semenchuk and Erwin Schrott are also officially confirmed for Turandot.

Conductors include Daniel Oren for Turandot, Renato Palumbo for Tosca, Antonino Fogliani for La rondine, and Michele Gamba for La bohème.

With Puccini’s music at its heart, a remarkable international cast, and performances beneath the Tuscan sky, the Puccini Festival 2027 offers a distinctive opportunity to experience the composer’s operas in the landscape that inspired him.

The composer lived on Lake Massachuccoli in Torre del Lago for about 30 years of his life. It was here that his most famous operas were created - Tosca (1900), Madame Butterfly (1904), Girl from the West (1910), Swallow (1917) and Triptych (1918). Near the villa The maestro, which is open to visitors in the summer, has an open amphitheater with 3370 seats and a closed auditorium with 495 seats on the lake. It is better to come to the performance in advance, which will allow you to get acquainted with the theater and the program of the evening, as well as take an evening walk in places that the maestro was expensive.
