About
Catherine Gubanova performs in famous opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Covent Garden, Bavarian State Opera, Vienna State Opera, Berlin the State Opera, the Berlin-based Deutsche Oper, the Lyric Opera in Chicago and the Madrid Teatro Real.
Born in Moscow. She studied at the Moscow State Conservatory. P. I. Tchaikovsky, Internship at the Academy. Jan Sibelius in Helsinki and participated in the program “Young performers of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.
In 2005, critics praised her performance of Brangena in the opera “Tristan and Isolde” on stage.
Paris National Opera. Later Gubanova sang this part in Baden-Baden, Rotterdam, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, St. Petersburg and Munich, conducted by such conductors as Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Semyon Bychkov and Zubin Mehta. Run by Daniel Barenboim she also performed the role of Freaks in the operas “The Gold of the Rhine” and “Valkyrie” on the stage of the Berlin State Opera and theater La Scala.
Catherine Gubanova’s Japanese debut took place in Tokyo, where she sang in Verdi's Requiem Riccardo Muti. She also performed the parts of Princess Eboli ("Don Carlos"), Lyubasha ("The Tsar's Bride") and Margarita (“The Condemnation of Faust”) at the Stars of the White Nights festival.
The successful debut in the Metropolitan Opera (in the opera “War and Peace”) marked the beginning of close cooperation singer with this theater. Together with the Metropolitan Opera troupe, Gubanova performed the roles of Juliet in the new the production of "The Hofmann Tales" (conducted by James Levine), Princess Eboli in the opera "Don Carlos" (on Japanese tour of the troupe in 2011) and Giovanna Seymour in the opera “Anna Bolein”, which opened the season 2011–2012. In the 2016–2017 season, Gubanova performed on the stage of the theater a part of Brangena in the new staging the opera "Tristan and Isolde" and the party Amneris in "Aida". Among concert engagements - Jocasta in the opera “King Oedipus”, performed in London and Stockholm under the direction of Esa-Pecchi Salonen, “The Song of the Land” by Mahler - in Paris, Moscow, Seoul and Dublin, “Songs to the Words of Ruckert” - in Wiesbaden. In 2008, at the opening of the “Gergiev Festival” in Rotterdam, Gubanova participated in "Songs of the Earth" by Mahler, and in 2009 she performed songs from the series "The Boy's Magic Horn" at the festival.
This concert was repeated at the Sydney Opera and at the BBC Proms festival, conducted by Mark Elder. She also performed Verdi’s Requiem on La Scala and the Berlin State Opera managed by Riccardo Muti and Daniel Barenboim. Among her recent engagements - participation in performances The Valkyrie” and “The Gold of the Rhine” (Berlin State Opera, La Scala and the BBC Proms Festival), Don Carlos (Munich, Toulouse, New York and Dresden), Tristan and Isolda (Munich, Valencia, Tokyo, Salzburg, Madrid), “Mermaid” (Chicago), “Werther” (Berlin), “Norma” (Barcelona). She participated in the recording of the Nibelung Ring with the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra. Directed by Valery Gergiev for the label Mariinsky.
