About

German mezzo-soprano Christina Bock made her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as the Page of Herodias (Salome). She returns in the 2018/19 Season to sing Wellgunde (Der Ring des Nibelungen).

Bock was born in Thüringen and studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig, and with Friedemann Röhlig, Hartmut Höll, Mitsuko Shirai and Charlotte Lehmann. At the Hilde Zadek International Competition she won the Arnold Schönberg Centre Prize. She was a member of Badische State Theatre Karlsruhe 2013–14, her roles including Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Child (L’Enfant et les sortilèges) and Mama (Where the Wild Things Are). Since 2014 she has been a member of Semperoper Dresden, where her roles include Cherubino, Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Siébel (Faust), Innkeeper’s Daughter (Königskinder), Lisa (Weinberg’s The Passenger), Page of Herodias, Lola (Cavalleria rusticana) and Jordan Baker (Harbison’s The Great Gatsby).

Bock’s other performances include Waltraute (Die Walküre) for the Salzburg Easter and Beijing Music festivals and Sylva Varescu (Die Csárdásfürstin) for Freiburg Opera. She performs regularly in recital, including in a trio for voice, clarinet and piano, and with the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet.
