The Dutch bass Yonathan van den Brink (1988) obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees with distinction in Economics and Sociology at the universities of York and UCL (London) in England, before he started his singing studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 2011 . As a child he played the tapes and later CDs of the Frank Groothof children's operas completely gray and singing opera is a dream come true. Yonathan sang among others the title role and Commendatore in Don Giovanni (with Operagasmic York, Meeuw Leeuwarden and the Internationale Musikakademie Bonn) and Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte (with B.O.O.M! And the Kammeroper Köln). He also likes to sing cantatas, oratorios and even the occasional musical. In addition to music, Yonathan has a rather fanatic interest in aircraft and trains, so you can still see him enthusiastically walking around the train station and airports.
“I got my first singing experience while preparing for my bar mitzvah, but I only realized the possibility of turning it into more than just a hobby when I went to study economics and sociology in England. I now mainly sing comic roles and bass roles such as Leporello. But secretly in the future I would also like to sing major serious roles such as Verdi’s Philip or Wagner's Hunding.
Opera should become more known to the Dutch public. There is no other art form that uses image, sound and uncompressed (!) Music. How can you love music and show and not find this exciting ?! In summer, open-air operas in Italy attract thousands of tourists and Italians who enthusiastically sing along with the big Verdi choirs. And of course in the Netherlands we have the children's operas by Frank Groothof and now B.O.O.M! Go especially to the large opera houses in the Netherlands, Germany and England. The great thing about opera is that it is both elitist and art for the people - whereby you certainly don't have to choose which group you belong to. ”
