Ying Lai Green (Cambridge, 1980) studied double bass at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester and at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Duncan McTier where she won several prizes and distinctions and graduated with the highest honours. She continued her studies in Germany before being appointed to her first position with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
She has since worked with a variety of symphonic and chamber orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist, she played in The Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain, performing works by Bottesini and Dittersdorf. Additionally, Ying Lai has given recitals throughout Europe and is a much sought after chamber musician.
Ying Lai has featured on many CD recordings, the most recent of which was the acclaimed Naxos recording of Benny’s Gig for Clarinet and Double Bass with Julien Herve. In 2009 Ying Lai was honoured with an Associateship from the Royal Academy of Music. She currently is solo bassist of Amsterdam Sinfonietta and European Camerata and assistant principal double bass with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
