Overview

The "Strings of China and the West" residency program will bring the audience a quartet concert and a guqin concert that reflect the collision and fusion of Chinese and Western music, as well as the "Art Life" musicians' talk between the Shanghai Quartet and Chen Leiji, chamber music and guqin master dream workshops and other rich activities. The audience will not only be able to enjoy the classic live performances presented by the Shanghai Quartet and Chen Leiji again, but will also witness the first collaboration between the two on the same stage in Chen Leiji's guqin concert, bringing a musical dialogue between the guqin and the quartet that transcends ancient and modern times and crosses the boundaries of musical instruments.

On November 16, Chen Leiji will join hands with the Shanghai Quartet and soprano Song Yuanming to renew their relationship with Xinghai Concert Hall. The concert will not only focus on presenting 14 representative works from the "Meian Qinpu", a very important work in the history of guqin studies, including the classic guqin pieces "Autumn Wind Lyrics", "Phoenix Seeking Phoenix", "Pingsha Luoyan", etc.; in the second half of the concert, Chen Leiji will continue to explore the interpretation of the fusion of guqin and Western instruments. There are both authentic classic guqin solos and innovative practices exploring Chinese and Western cultures, which is refreshing.

Opened in 1998, Xinghai Concert Hall is the biggest and most prestigious concert venue in Guangzhou, famed for its best architectural acoustics in China. The Hall is named after Xian Xinghai, a renowned Chinese composer, who was born in Guangzhou. The Hall consists of three parts, a symphony performing hall with 1500 seats, Chamber Music Hall and Music Material Room. The venue has hosted many world-class musicians and performing groups, including London Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Itzhak Perlman, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Lorin Maazel, Mischa Maisky, Yo-Yo Ma, Lang Lang and Yundi Li.
