About

The Wurttemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn (WKO) sees itself as an international sound factory, in which passionate and inspired work on a distinctive chamber orchestra sound. Here, the lived ideal of chamber music making with the exquisite craftsmanship of every orchestra musician merge into works interpretations that set standards. Under the guiding principle of an emotional and sensual sound culture, the bridge to his audience succeeds with artistic diversity: from large-scale chamber music to symphonies through the lens, from classical repertoire to works of the 20th century. With the beginning of the season 2018/2019 Case Scaglione is the new chief conductor of the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn.

The WKO was founded in 1960 by Prof. Jörg Faerber. In his more than 40-year tenure (1960-2002) he had made the orchestra an internationally recognized ensemble through visionary first recordings and numerous tours. The sounding era under Ruben Gazarian (2002-2018) marked an expansion of the repertoire through the selection of numerous works from the Romantic, the early modern and the avant-garde.

As a convinced touring body, the orchestra leaves its soundtracks with a supra-regional and international audience. This season, the WKO is taking on the role of the portrait orchestra in the series "Wiener Klassik München" (Music Experience) in the Herkulessaal. Guest performance highlights of recent years are u.a. the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Musikverein Wien, the Philharmonie Berlin, the Philharmonie Köln as well as foreign tours through Korea, Cambodia or Spain. In 2019, the WKO returns to a multi-concert tour of China.

The orchestra also relies on musical diversity of the highest quality in its homeland. This includes his subscription concerts in Heilbronn and Ulm, the innovative concert series redblue meets klassik in cooperation with INTERSPORT, the KSK chamber music series designed by the WKO musicians, regular music theater collaborations with the Heilbronn Theater and the music education program KOPFHöRER for babies co-developed by the orchestra musicians Primary school children and adolescents.

The quality and quality of the orchestra is reflected in the regular exchange of sound with outstanding artistic personalities: Avi Avital, Rudolf Buchbinder, Asya Fateyeva, Augustin Hadelich, Håkan Hardenberger, Sharon Kam, Felix Klieser, Katia & Marielle Labèque, Bejun Mehta, Sabine Meyer, Johannes Moser, Olga Scheps, Herbert Schuch, Daniel Müller-Schott, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, Carolin Widmann and Frank Peter Zimmermann are among others solo partners in concert or on CD recordings.
