Wilhelm Schwinghammer (* 1977 in Vilsbiburg) is a German opera singer (bass).

Wilhelm Schwinghammer was born in Vilsbiburg in the Bavarian district of Landshut, he grew up in Taufkirchen / Vils in the district of Erding. As a boy he sang at the Regensburger Domspatzen, whose music high school he attended until graduation in 1998.  Schwinghammer studied from 2000 at the University of the Arts in Berlin singing with Harald Stamm and was a master student of Kurt Moll and Marjana Lipovšek. As a student he sang u. a. in the vocal ensembles Collegium Vocale Gent (direction Philippe Herreweghe) and Sette Voci (direction Peter Kooij) with. Under the direction of René Jacobs swinging hammer sang in Handel's oratorio Saul.

In 2003 the Hamburg State Opera took Schwinghammer to the International Opera Studio. In 2006 he was accepted into the permanent ensemble of the Hamburg State Opera. His repertoire includes u. a. Sarastro from The Magic Flute, Il Re from Aida, Figaro at Le nozze di Figaro, Colline from La Bohème, Fasolt from Rheingold, Fafner from Siegfried, Leporello from Don Giovanni, Sparafucile at Rigoletto and Rocco from Fidelio. He has been working freelance since 2017.

In 2008 Schwinghammer sang the opening of the Bundesliga season 08/09 in the Munich Allianz Arena, 2011 also in the Westfalenstadion for the opening of the 2011/2012 season, the national anthem.

Wilhelm Schwinghammer made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2005 alongside Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón. Grenvil in La Traviata. In 2012 he performed for the first time at the Bayreuth Festival and sang King Henry in Lohengrin. He also took over this role in Bayreuth in the years 2013-2015, 2014 and 2015. In 2015 he also gave Fasolt in Frank Castorf's Rheingold. In 2013, he sang King Marke in the new production of Tristan and Isolde at the Washington National Opera. In 2014 he made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as Titurel in Parsifal. In 2016, he served as Sarastro in the Magic Flute at the Los Angeles Opera, at the Tanglewood Festival under Andris Nelson in Beethoven's 9th Symphony, as Rocco in Fidelio under Zubin Mehta with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and as Fasolt in the Rheingold at the Lyric Opera of Chicago experience.
