He begins with Janáček’s Fantasy on Jenůfa, transforming literary scenes from a Russian short story into a musical tableau of yearning and tension. The second half unveils A Sailor’s Day Off, a lively, character-rich composition that highlights the composer’s playful humour and inventive textures. Throughout the recital, Fung’s nuanced phrasing and luminous tone invite the audience on a journey from brooding introspection to buoyant levity.
