Vincent Chaillet is a French dancer born in Metz on July 3, 1984. He is currently the first dancer within the Ballet of the Opéra national de Paris.
Vincent Chaillet discovers the trades of the scene by accompanying his mother, singer of choir, during its spectacles. He is five years old and says he wants to dance. His parents first enroll him in a jazz dance class, but the discipline does not please him: he begins to study classical dance in his hometown.
Five years later, his teacher encouraged him to present himself at the entrance auditions of the dance school of the Paris Opera, which he successfully followed. He discovers a world quite different from what he was used to, but perseveres in his studies and climbs the ladder without any particular difficulty. During his schooling, he participated in several shows and dance Yondering John Neumeier, Maurice Béjart Greek Dance with Dorothée Gilbert or The Girl poorly guarded in the version of Claude Bessy. His large size (1.85 m) is an asset, since it allows him for example to dance with older students and meet the requirements of some choreographers.
At the age of eighteen, he obtained his literary baccalaureate and was engaged in the ballet corps of the Paris Opera. His first appearance on stage will be almost by surprise: warned half an hour before the beginning of the performance, he must ensure a replacement in the ballet corps of Swan Lake, in 2002. Two years later, he is promoted coryphée , then subject in 2007, after presenting solos taken from The Wretched Girl and Step / Part by William Forsythe. That same year, Pina Bausch himself noticed, and entrusted him with the role of Cerberus in Orpheus and Eurydice.
In November 2009, he was promoted to first dancer (variations extracted from La Bayadère and Arepo from Maurice Béjart) and began to obtain several important roles in the productions of the Paris Opera. He made his debut in the lead role of Tricorne and is preparing to play Gaston Rieux in La Dame aux camélias. In addition, he participates alongside Isabelle Ciaravola and Mathieu Ganio at a dance gala organized in Prague in January, gala gathering renowned international dancers.
At the same time, he has a special interest in writing plays and short stories, and with his colleague in the company, he also puts on a children's show mixing singing, dancing and music.
In April 2011, he was nominated for the Benois Dance Prize for his work in O Zlozony / O Composite by Trisha Brown.
He announced in December 2017 to temporarily leave the ballet of the Paris Opera at the end of the season 2017-2018.
Since 2017, the dancer-choreographer has been the artistic director of Les Synodales festival, organized by the French association Les Synodales. He now directs the international contemporary dance competition of the association succeeding Bruno Bouché, also from the Paris Opera.
In January 2018, he also joined the Enfoirés troupe for the show Les Enfoirés 2018: Musique!, Where he danced alongside Marie-Agnès Gillot.
