Armenian-German bass Vazgen Gazaryan started his operatic career as Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Yerevan Opera Studio in 2004/05, and in 2017/18 season he joined the Metropolitan Opera roster, debuting in the role of Oroveso in Norma.
A frequent performer in major European houses and a decade-long principal bass at Theater Erfurt, Mr Gazaryan is an extremely versatile singer, whose impressive repertoire covers more than 60 roles, including the most demanding bass roles such as the title role Mefistofele (Boito), Mefistofele in Faust (Gounod), Philippe and the Grand Inquisitor in Don Carlos, Leporello and Commandatore in Don Giovanni, Veit Pogner in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Doctor in Wozzeck, King René in Iolanta and more.
Mr Gazaryan sung on the most prestigious stages in Europe and USA, performing under the baton of Carlo Rizzi, Gianandrea Noseda, Kent Nagano, Oliver von Dohnani, Donato Renzetti, Ricardo Frizza, Danielе Rustioni.
Mr Gazaryan graduated from the Yerevan State Conservatory as a singer and a percussionist in 2005. He is a 2nd Prize winner of T. Sazandaryan Armenian National Singing Competition 2010, Best Bass of the Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition in Italy 2011 and was the Armenian representative in BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2011.
