Ulrich Reß (born October 29, 1956 in Augsburg) is a German opera, operetta, song and oratorio singer in the tenor tenor. He is the brother of Wolfgang Reß.
In his hometown, he studied from 1975 to 1978 singing at the local Leopold Mozart Conservatory with Franz Kelch. He also took singing lessons with Leonore Kirschstein. He received his first engagement as Spieltenor at the Theater Augsburg. With the season 1984/85 Ulrich Reß moved to the Bavarian State Opera, to which he is still a member of the ensemble. In 1994, the artist was appointed Bavarian Chamber singer.
Ulrich Reß made his debut in 1988 as David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Bayreuth Festival. Guest appearances have taken him among others the music stages of Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Dresden, Mannheim, Barcelona, Athens, Strasbourg, Nice and Japan.
His roles include, for example, Scaramuccio in Ariadne, Naxos. Blind in The Bat, Bishop of Budoja in Palestrina, Crisp Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser and the Singer War on the Wartburg, Valzacchi in Der Rosenkavalier, Junker Sparse in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Pong in Turandot, Monostatos in The Magic Flute and Jacquino in Fidelio, Mime in Das Rheingold, Mime in Siegfried.
In addition to his international activities as an opera singer, Ulrich Reß is a sought-after song and oratorio singer. For example, on October 31, 2009, he appeared in the Sacred Heart Church alongside Sophia Brommer and Michael Volle as Uriel in the oratorio The Creation of Joseph Haydn.
