A highlight of the season, bass-baritone Tyler Simpson appeared with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as a guest soloist for their televised Christmas Spectacular in December 2015. The concert featured traditional Christmas songs, new arrangements, and selections from Handel’s Messiah, and will air on PBS in December 2016.
The 2015- 2016 season marks Tyler's sixth consecutive season at the Metropolitan Opera, where he has worked on 18 productions after having made his debut in Verdi's Don Carlo in the 2010-2011 season.
During his tenure, he has sung roles in Le Comte Ory, Tosca, The Enchanted Island, and Macbeth.
He has also covered roles in Verdi's Don Carlo and La traviata, Simon Boccanegra, Anna Bolena, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Lulu, and Billy Budd with the company.
Engagements for his 2014-2015 season included Doctor Grenvil in La traviata with Lyric Opera of Kansas City, 2nd Nazarene in Salome in his Dallas Opera debut, the Secret Police Agent in The Consul for his debut with Florida Grand Opera, and the Flemish Deputy in Don Carlo and the cover of Doctor Grenvil in La traviata with the Metropolitan Opera as well as Angelotti in Tosca with the Detroit Symphony.
Mr. Simpson returned to the Castleton Music Festival for L’heure espagnol and Roméo et Juliette in summer of 2015 and returned to Le Festival Lyrique International de Belle-Île en Mer to sing Uberto in La serva padrona and Jesus in Bach’s Johannes-Passion.
The 2015-2016 season sees his return to Ft. Worth Opera as Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Le Festival Lyrique International de Belle-Île en Mer as Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte and the soloist in Beethoven’s Mass in C and Mozart’s Vespers. Additionally, he will make debuts with Hawaii Opera Theatre as Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and North Carolina Opera as Dr. Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia.
Future seasons see his return to North Carolina Opera as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro.
