Overview
There's no better way to savour the atmosphere of Lefkas town than by wandering the maze of narrow alleys that make up the heart of the island's capital. This tour will take you to all the top spots, from the most important monuments to the legendary ‘Sunset Boulevard' for sundown.You'll walk through the 'cantounia' – narrow flagstoned streets – of the old town, where traditional houses of wood coated with zinc still stand. Pause before picture-postcard churches with interiors richly decorated with frescoes and icons. See the Charamoglios Library and other historic attractions, too.And then there are the shops and tavernas – each one adding to the charming streetscape. The buzz becomes infectious when you reach the main square, which is swarming with activity. The head to the seafront, where the locals are enjoying their evening volta – stroll – before watching the sea bathed in scarlet and gold at sunset. You'll also see the newish marina, which has brought even more life to the town.
