About

Tomoki Kitamura was born in 1991 in Aichi/Japan and began playing the piano at the age of three. Early on he won important international piano competitions, such as the 3rd prize at the Hamamatsu Piano Competition (2006), the 5th prize and special prize for the best interpretation of Franz Schubert's works and contemporary music at the Sydney International Piano Competition (2008), the 5th prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition (2015) and the 2nd prize at the International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn (2017).

Since winning the 1st prize (2nd prize not awarded) and the Grand Jury Prize at the renowned Tokyo Music Competition (2015) in 2005, Tomoki Kitamura has appeared as a soloist with renowned orchestras and as a soloist, chamber musician and fortepiano player in numerous concert halls in Europe and Japan.

Tomoki Kitamura has already made three solo recordings, which have received positive reviews in renowned Japanese magazines.

After studying with Kei Itoh in Japan, he continued his studies at the Berlin University of the Arts since 2011, where he graduated with the highest distinction in 2017 with Rainer Becker. Tomoki Kitamura is currently studying historical interpretation practice (fortepiano) with Jesper Christensen at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main and piano with Ewa Pobłocka.
