Tomasz Kumięga was born in 1991 and studied at the Frederic Chopin University in Warsaw. He was a member of the Wielki Theatre Opera Academy from 2012 to 2014. He has performed numerous roles at the Polish National Opera including Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Demetrius (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Marullo (Rigoletto) and the Nobleman from Brabant (Lohengrin). As part of the Aix Festival’s 2012 European Academy of Music – where he won the HSBC Prize – he played Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and Masetto in Don Giovanni. He sang Guglielmo in Così fan tutte at the Teatro Lope de Vega in Seville and the title role in Don Giovanni at the Warsaw Chamber Opera for the 2014 Mozart Festival.
In October 2014, he joined the Paris Opera’s Atelier Lyrique (Academy) and sang the role of Guglielmo in Così fan tutte at the Maison des Arts in Créteil. In 2015, he made his Aix Festival debut in Be With Me Now and also made his Paris Opera debut performing the role of Yamadori in Madame Butterfly. He performs regularly in concert singing at numerous European venues under the direction of conductors like Philippe Jordan, Krzysztof Penderecki, Jérémie Rohrer, Daniele Rustioni and Jean-François Verdier. He is currently working with Eytan Pessen. During his residency at the Academy, he performed the title role in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo (2016) and Alcée / Eurilas in Les Fêtes d’Hébé (2017) at the Bastille Amphitheatre.
He took part in the productions of Iphigénie en Tauride at the Palais Garnier (a Minister and a Scythian), and Wozzeck (Second Apprentice), Don Carlos (a Flemish Deputy), Gianni Schicchi (Amantio di Nicolao) and Tristan et Isolde (Steersman) at the Opéra Bastille. He has also played the Police Commissioner in Il Signor Bruschino at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, le Dancaïre (Carmen) in Warsaw, and Bello (La Fanciulla del West) at the Zurich Opera.
