About
The Senior Concert Orchestra of New York is an ensemble comprised of senior musicians who are veterans of major symphony and opera orchestras nationwide, including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. The orchestra is a project of the Senior Musicians Association of New York, which has nearly 3,000 active, honorary, and emeritus members. The ensemble sponsors free concerts at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, and a series of performances throughout the boroughs. The orchestra also holds the annual Waldo Mayo Violin Competition, selecting a young violinist to appear as soloist in concert under Maestro David Gilbert.
