Ukrainian soprano Tatiana Melnychenko made her Royal Opera debut in 2016 as Abigaille (Nabucco).
Melnychenko began her singing career at the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre, going on to study at the Reina Sofía College of Music in Madrid with Teresa Berganza. Her many awards include grand prix at the Concours International de Chant de Toulouse and in competitions in Spain, the Czech Republic and Belgium. Her engagements include Abigaille for Arena di Verona (with Plácido Domingo), Metropolitan Opera, New York, Liceu, Barcelona, Israeli Opera and Opéra de Montréal, Tatyana (Eugene Onegin) for Prague State Opera and Lady Macbeth for Hamburg State Opera, Opera Klagenfurt and Greek National Opera. Other roles include Liza (The Queen of Spades), Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Elizabeth of Valois (Don Carlo), Norma, Mimì (La bohème), Tosca, Suor Angelica and Liù (Turandot). She has performed extracts from the roles of Senta (Der fliegende Holländer) and Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) for the Madrid Wagner Association.
Melnychenko has sung in concert at venues including Konzerthaus Berlin, Auditorio Nacional de Música, Madrid, Palau de la Música Catalana, Barcelona, Victoria Hall, Geneva, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Tonhalle Düsseldorf and Odessa Philharmonic Theatre, among others. She has also sung in opera galas in Madrid and Brussels. Her discography includes Shostakovich’s Seven Romances of Alexander Blok for Fuga Libera.
