About

German bass Tareq Nazmi gathered first stage experience at the Bavarian State Opera’s Opera Studio and later on, joined the Opera´s ensemble where he starred in roles such as Don Fernando (Fidelio), Masetto (Don Giovanni), The Speaker (The Magic Flute), Sylvano (La Calisto), Zuniga (Carmen), Truffaldino (Ariadne auf Naxos), Publio (The Clemency of Titus), Caronte (L’Orfeo), Nachtigall (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Albert (La Juive) or Osman (Les Indes galantes).

In the 2017/18 season Tareq Nazmi is touring Europe twice: at first with Beethoven´s Leonore and the Freiburger Barockorchester under the baton of René Jacobs with concerts in Athens, Vienna, Brussels, Amsterdam and Paris and a second time with Thomas Hengelbrock and Haydn´s Creation with concerts in Luxembourg, Hanover, Baden-Baden and Dortmund. Later in the season, Tareq returns to Vienna´s Theater an der Wien and debuts as Bottom in Britten´s A Midsummer Night´s Dream in a new staging by Damiano Michieletto. Furthermore, he can be heard with Beethoven´s 9th Symphony and Verdi´s Requiem at the Tonhalle Zurich, with Mozart´s Requiem at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Schmidt´s Book with the Seven Seals in Copenhagen.

Tareq Nazmi´s particularly broad concert repertoire ranges from Bach to Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms, Mozart and Dvořák. Recitals, too, are becoming ever more common in his calendar. So far, he had recitals with pianist Gerold Huber in Munich, Lambach and Ingolstadt, at the Schubertiade Hohenems and will have his debut at London’s prestigious Wigmore Hall in October 2018.

Highlights of previous seasons include Masetto and Commendatore in a Don Giovanni in concert tour in 2015 with concerts in Barcelona, Shanghai, Beijing and Paris and René Jacobs conducting. In 2016, he made his debut at Cologne’s Opera House as Leporello under François-Xavier Roth and appeared in a new production of Don Giovanni at the Theater an der Wien. Two further debuts took Tareq Nazmi to Komische Oper Berlin, where he performed the role of Basilio in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, and to St. Gallen where he could be heard as Zaccaria in a new production of Nabucco, venturing into the Verdi repertoire for the first time. At the Grafenegg Festival and the Philharmonie Cologne, Tareq Nazmi appeared in the title role in the rarely-performed Thamos, King of Egypt. He had his debut with the Washington National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, with the Orchestre de Paris in Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust under Daniel Harding, performed in Brahms’ Requiem in San Sebastian under Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and was soloist in Mozart’s Requiem under Manfred Honeck with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester in Berlin. Furthermore, he made his acclaimed debut under Constantinos Carydis at the Salzburg Festival in 2016 where he will return as Speaker in Mozart´s Magic Flute in 2018.
