About
Tamara Banješević was born in Belgrade and studied at the University of Music in Mannheim and the Juilliard School with Edith Wiens. She made her career debut in the role of Anna Reich in The Merry Wives of Windsor at the Schloss Weikersheim.
In 2012, she joined the troupe of the Nationaltheater in Mannheim where she performed numerous roles, including Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Giulia in La Scala di seta, Amenaide in Tancredi, Ännchen in Freischütz, Woglinde in Das Rheingold, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Nannetta in Falstaff, Valter in La Wally, Ninetta in The Love for Three Oranges, and the title role in Zaide. In 2013, she made her Baden-Baden Festival debut and, in 2014, her Aix Festival debut. In 2015, she was invited back to the Baden-Baden Festival (where she sang the role of the Milliner in Der Rosenkavalier with Sir Simon Rattle conducting). She also gave a recital the same year at the Heidelberg Spring Festival. Last season, she made her debut appearances at Lincoln Center and the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels (the High Priestess in Aida) and she was a finalist in the Viñas Competition in Barcelona. More recently, she took first prize at the Manhattan International Competition and received the Richard Kandel Memorial Award (Opera Index Competition). She also sang the role of Amore in Monteverdi’s Il Ballo delle ingrate and Sandrina in La Finta Giardiniera in New York. Tamara Banješević has also given recitals in New York, Los Angeles, France and Germany. She has sung under the direction of numerous conductors, including Helmut Rilling and William Christie.
