The Danish native, in Copenhagen educated coloratura soprano Susanne Elmark has been in great demand in the opera and concert houses of the entire world for the last twenty years.

With the roles of Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Queen of the Night (Zauberflöte), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Lulu (Lulu), Fiakermilli (Arabella), Marie (Die Soldaten), Claudia (Stilles Meer) Susanne Elmark has been engaged in houses like Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Staatsoper Hamburg, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Teatro Real Madrid, Opera Oslo, Oper Frankfurt, Oper Cologne, Opernhaus Zürich, Wiener Volksoper, Royal Opera Copenhagen and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

Besides the classical opera and concert repertoire Susanne Elmark often performs in contemporary music; several pieces are dedicated to her, und she has participated in numerous first performances. She has sung at big festivals in Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Germany, France and Spain, including cooperations with Ensemble Modern in alte Oper Frankfurt and Ensemble Intercontemporain of Pierre Boulez at The Lucerne Festival.

Susanne Elmark also performs in oratorie and recitals and has had concerts in Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Luxembourg Philharmonie, Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, Salle Pleyel Paris and Wiener Konzerthaus.

2019 she sang Inanna in Jörg Widmann’s opera Babylon at The Berliner Staatsoper and is hired again for the revival in 2021.

Futher future engagements include Cordelia in Reimanns’s Lear at Teatro Real Madrid, Agnès in the George Benjamin opera Written on Skin in Suntory Hall, Tokyo, Japan, Maïma in Offenbach’s operette Barkouf at Oper Köln and the very demanding solo piece by Heinz Holliger NOT I at the Lucerne Festival.

usanne Elmark has worked with conductors such as Kent Nagano, Kazushi Ono, Gary Bertini, Sir Colin Davis, Marcello Viotti, Peter Schneider, Peter Schreier, Christian Thielemann, Paul McCreesh, Eliahu Inbal, Marek Janowsky and Adam Fischer.

She has made several CD recordings, for example as Celia in Mozart’s opera Lucio Silla. In October 2016 her first solo album was released on Naxos, Arias: Ch’il bel Sogno with South Denmark Philharmonic and conductor Robert Reimer, opera arias by Verdi, Puccini and Mozart.

Over the last years Susanne Elmark has started giving masterclasses and opera coaching, including several masterclasses at the Bolshoi Opera in Moscow, The Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg Berlin and San Sebastián Conservatory, and in 2016 a book about her 25 years on stage, her way to an international carreer and a life ”in a suitcase” Det var med vilje (It was at will) was published in Denmark.
