With her great interest in music, language and theater, singer Sterre Konijn (1987) has built up a versatile concert practice. She performs in music theater, cross over and modern classical productions.
As a member of the National Youth Choir and as a student at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, she received a classical singing education, but continued her studies in Denmark at the Complete Vocal Institute. This institute aims to develop all the possibilities of the voice and to apply these in all possible styles. She received her Masters in Music Theater with Paul Koek and the Veenfabriek at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She also studied Italian and art history at the Universities of Amsterdam and Rome.
She sings from French chanson to Bulgarian folk music and from jazz to classical avant-garde, she plays in music theater productions and also plays the violin and theremin. She performed in concert halls including The Concertgebouw, Carré and Paradiso, but also in the bicycle tunnel under the Rijksmuseum, in the sky above Florence and inside Brug9 over an Amsterdam canal. She collaborated with, among others, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In recent years she has appeared on Radio 4, Podium Witteman, De Wereld Draait Door, Vrije Geluiden and Omroep Max.
Sterre reached the national final of the Princess Christina Competition as a duo with Nora Fischer, and won the first prize in 2014 at the Concours de la Chanson Française.
