Born in 1961 in Großenhain (Saxony), he spent his childhood in Dresden and Eberswalde (Brandenburg).
After graduating from high school, he was a soldier at the NVA for 18 months. He then worked as a chemist and waiter. From 1982 to 1987 he studied Cultural Studies at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and briefly worked as a cultural journalist with the radio station Dresden. From 1987 he studied externally at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst "Ernst Busch", Rostock branch, where he graduated from his second degree in 1991.
Since then he has been engaged in the following theatres: Mecklenburgisches Landestheater Parchim, Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, Schauspiel Leipzig, Schauspiel Frankfurt/Oder, Schauspiel Frankfurt/Main, Schauspielhaus Graz, Schillertheater Berlin, Berliner Ensemble, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Bad Hersfelder Festspiele, Oper und Theater Dortmund, Theater Osnabrück, Aalto Oper Essen, Freilichtspiele Schwäbisch Hall, Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Salzburger Festspiele, Staatsoper Hannover.
In addition, Steffen Schortie Scheumann has participated in numerous Film and television productions-including "Männerpension" (cinema), " Sonnenallee "(cinema), "der Krieger und die Emperin" (cinema), "Hotel Lux" (cinema), "the Grand Budapest Hotel" (cinema), "Tatort" (ARD), "Polizei Ruf" (ARD), "Hell in the head" (ZDF) and "Ich bin ein Berliner" (SAT.1) - and is a regular speaker for radio.
