Stefan Parkman holds the Eric Ericson professorship in choral conducting at the Uppsala University. Since 2010 he is Director Cantorum at the University. Since 2014/15 he is Chief Conductor of the WDR Rundfunkchor Cologne.

He regularly conducts a great number of professional choirs in Europe and USA including Rundfunkchor Berlin, RIAS Kammerchor, Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, NDR Choir Hamburg, SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart, Netherlands Radio Choir, Choeur de Radio France, Nederlands Kamerkoor, BBC Singers London and Trinity Choir New York.

As a freelance conductor Parkman appears with numerous symphony orchestras and ensembles including the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Stavanger Symphony, Odense Symphony, Aarhus Symphony, Dresdner Barockorchester, WDR Symphony, Kölner Kammerorchester and the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm.

Highlights of his career mark numerous a cappella concerts as well oratorio concerts at major venues and festivals with works from J.S. Bach to Brahms and Verdi.

Stefan Parkman is widely recognised for his commitment to contemporary Nordic music. Together with the Academy Chamber Choir of Uppsala, Philharmonischer Chor Berlin, international soloists and orchestras he conducted the world premiere of Sven-David Sandström’s Matthew Passion in Berlin, Stockholm and Uppsala in 2014.

His discography includes numerous recordings, including two CDs with the Rundfunkchor Berlin with Rodion Shchedrin’s The Sealed Angel and the Echo Klassik award-winning CD with Ernst Pepping’s Matthew Passion (both for Coviello Classics). As Chief Conductor of the Danish National Radio Choir from 1989 to 2002 he made numerous CD recordings for Chandos and dacapo.

From 2002-2005 Stefan Parkman was Chief Conductor of the Swedish Radio Choir. In addition, Parkman held the positions of conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Choir Stockholm and the Uppsala Cathedral Boy's Choir. Since 1893 he is conductor of the Academy Chamber Choir of Uppsala.

Stefan Parkman also frequently teaches at masterclasses, seminars and workshops in Sweden and abroad. In 2012 he was a guest professor at the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University, USA, and Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin. On several occasions, Parkman has been the leader of a masterclass with the NDR Choir in Hamburg, arranged by the Dirigentenforum des Deutschen Musikrats.

In 1997 Stefan Parkman was made Knight of the Dannebrog by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. In 1998 he was elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. In 2012 Stefan Parkman received the The Litteris et Artibus Medal from the hands of H. M. The King Carl XVI Gustaf.
