Stefan Mickisch (born in Schwandorf) is a German pianist, composer and musicologist.
Stefan Mickisch grew up in a family of musicians and received early support. He first learned to play the piano, later also the violin and organ. After graduating from high school, he studied piano (Erich Appel) and violin (Ulf Klausenitzer) at the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nuremberg, as well as composition, music and opera history. In 1982 he passed the musical matriculation examination. He completed further studies, u. a. with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling (Hanover University of Music), master classes with Oleg Maisenberg (Vienna), Bruno Leonardo Gelber (Munich) and with Sergiu Celibidache (Mainz). From 1987 to 1991 he studied with Leonid Brumberg at the Vienna Conservatory.
