The Singakademie Potsdam is a registered association whose roots date back to 1814. She sees in her conceptual and artistic concerns, in the Tradition of an Association for the maintenance of the choral singing, as it was first established in 1791 by Carl Friedrich Fasch as a Singe-Academie zu Berlin.
History
The Singakademie Potsdam was founded in 1952 by the Madrigal circle of the municipal choir Potsdam. In 1969 she received the title "Singakademie der Stadt Potsdam"in recognition of her achievements. Thus, the spectrum of artistic work expanded considerably in the following years. Since then, in addition to the choral symphonic work and the care of the A-cappella singing, special attention has been paid to the continuous promotion of children and Youth Choir. This combination of choirs of different age groups still makes up the special structure of the Singakademie.
In 1993, the sing-Akademie was in free, sponsorship – and as the sing Academy Potsdam e. V. From 1957 until 2002 Horst Müller was artistic Director. He was followed by Edgar Hykel, then choir director at the Nuremberg State Theatre until October 2010. Since then, Thomas Hennig, conductor and composer, artistic Director of the institution.
The sing Academy Potsdam e. V. is choirs a member of the Association of German Concert.
