Born in Dresden Sebastian Wartig received his first voice training as a member of the Dresdner Kreuzchor and studied with Kammersänger Prof. Roland Schubert at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig, where he graduated in 2015 with the masterclass.
Since the season 2015/16, the young baritone is a permanent member of the ensemble of the Semperoper Dresden, where he sang from 2013 to 2015 in the Junge Ensemble.
Sebastian Wartig was a 2011 winner of the Albert Lortzing Competition, took second place in the International Robert Schumann Competition in 2012 and in 2014 won first place in the national singing competition in Berlin. In November 2015, he was awarded the prize of the Foundation for the Promotion of the Semperoper.
He is known to the television audience through appearances at ZDF's New Year's Eve concerts and in the program "Stars of Tomorrow".
