Saul Stacey Williams is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, musician, poet, writer, and actor. He is known for his blend of poetry and alternative hip hop, and for his lead roles in the 1998 independent film Slam and the 2013 jukebox musical Holler If Ya Hear Me.
The poet, slam poet, musician and actor Saul Williams, born 1972 in Newburgh, New York, graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta and the New York Table School of the Arts. In addition to his lyrics, international attention earned him the debut album Amethyst Rock Star (2001) produced by Rick Rubin. Since then, Williams has appeared in more than 30 countries and lectured at over 300 universities. He has performed at the White House and Louvre, New York's Lincoln Center, London's Queen Eliza-beth Hall and Sydney Opera House, as well as townships, community centers and prisons, and with artists as diverse as Nine Inch Nails Singer Erykah Badu or the poet Allen Ginsberg worked together. He has also appeared in numerous feature films and TV films, including Slam (1998), Cannes and the Sundance Film Festival.
