Sau, like other music groups, is a product of chance. The chance caused Pep Sala and Carles Sabater to meet at a music school in Carrer de la Fusina, Vic. It was in May 1986 and the reason for this coincidence was the filming of a pilot episode for a series set for TV3, based on cultural life in the Catalan counties.
Pep Sala was, along with Jaume Bogunyà, the Vic Student's Studies Center, and Carles Sabater was one of the presenters of the program. He had to interview Pep. The interview was successful and the personal chemistry was lit between the two protagonists, who stayed there that afternoon to continue talking about their musical tastes. They ended up at a bar vigatà at dawn in the morning. In the course of that day - or rather, that night -, in Carles he commented on Pep that he sang as an amateur.
The good relationship that was born that day remained and again coincided, this time in a premeditated way, to talk about the idea of Pep Sala -that he had recently returned from London- to set up a group here, in Catalonia.
It was June when the idea of forming La mujer pianista, an ephemeral project, which was also part of the drummer Quim Soler and the guitarist Josep Lluís Pérez. The training was dissolved soon, since Carles was working on the Omerta work, with the La Vendetta theater company, and Quim Soler and Josep Lluís Pérez joined a new group called El último de la fila.
Still, the germ planted by Pep Sala and Carles Sabater was brewing what, in the near future, would be the Sau group. The meetings between both, which were taking place since May, when they were known, gave the first fruit in a joint performance with the band of the AEM, Pep's school, which took place in one of the concerts that Pep Sala used to assemble so that the students of the school went public.
It was a dusk in November 1986, at the School of Arts and Crafts of Vic, where Sean Magnanimus & The Big Bam Bum Blues made the concert in which, for the first time, Pep Sala and Carles Sabater shared stage Together they interpreted the song Take it to the limit, of the Eagles.
In the middle of the public, Pep had a special friend, Joan Capdevila. That day, Pep presented him to Carles, so, somehow, it was that afternoon in November when he began to shape the early beginnings of Sau.
