Rudi van Hest studied clarinet at the Brabant Conservatory with Jan Cober and in 2000 he obtained his Performing Musician degree.
From 1996 to 2002 he played in the Ricciotti ensemble and made many national and international tours with this orchestra. At the Ricciotti ensemble he worked as an assistant artistic director and was responsible for the programming of the tours.
He is an enthusiastic practitioner of romantic and especially contemporary chamber music. In ensembles, such as the Wervelwind Ensemble and as a soloist, such as with the contemporary music ensemble K2, with which he performed Gnarly Buttons by John Adams.
Rudi regularly plays in choir accompaniment orchestras such as Philharmonia Amsterdam and the Promenade Orchestra. He has gained considerable experience in playing in a symphony orchestra in general and performing this specific repertoire in particular.
Since 2005 Rudi has been a passionate creator of and player in music theater productions for children in particular.
Finally, he is a clarinet teacher at the Utrecht Center for the Arts, where, in addition to giving individual clarinet lessons, he also leads large and small ensembles and takes care of the content (compositions and arrangements) of the combined project weeks.
