Rubén Gimeno (born 1972 in Valencia) is a Spanish conductor, violinist and clarinetist.
He studied clarinet and violin at the Joaquín Rodrigo Higher Conservatory of Music in his hometown. Subsequently, he entered the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where he won the Premier Prix and Diplome Superieur in chamber and violin music.
He began his orchestra conducting studies with James Ross at the University of Maryland. He then studied at the Stockholm Conservatory with Jorma Panula, Essa Pekka Salonen, Leonard Slatkin, Alan Gilbert and Gustav Meier, among others.
From 1997 to 2007 he was the conductor of the Young Symphony Orchestra of Galicia, and he was also the assistant conductor of the Young National Orchestra of Spain. He is also guest conductor of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.
He has directed, among others, the National Orchestra of Spain, the City Orchestra of Granada, the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, the City Orchestra of Oviedo, the Symphony Orchestra of Gavle (Sweden), the Orchestra of the Royal Conservatory of Stockholm, the Orchestra of the Swedish National Academy, the Young Orchestra of Castilla y León, the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y León, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, the Malaga Symphony Orchestra, the (Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias, the Galicia Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra from Valencia, Barcelona and National Orchestra of Catalonia and the MMCK Festival Orchestra (Japan).
Since September 2009, he has been in charge of the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès.
His activity in the field of lyricism has led him to direct the new productions of the Campoamor Theater of Oviedo de Marina, La Gran Via, Agua, Azucarillos and Aguardiente. Likewise, he has directed Cádiz de Chueca with the Galicia Symphony. In October 2010 he made his debut at the Teatro de la Zarzuela with the play "La del Soto del Parral", reaping very good reviews. In February 2011, he debuted as opera director with Offenbach's play "The Tales of Hoffman", with great critic and public success.
