Programme
Overview
Embark on an emotional odyssey with eight cellos as they summon the solemn beauty of Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil, the lyrical charm of Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, and the spirited pulse of Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas brasileiras No.1. A concert where deep resonance meets vibrant Brazilian flair.Eight cellists unite in a programme that journeys from the hushed, transcendent depths of Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil to the graceful melodic lines of Elgar’s Serenade for Strings. Each bow stroke reveals the ensemble’s rich, layered harmonies, drawing you into Rachmaninov’s evocative masterpiece before transitioning to Elgar’s intimate early work, where warmth and elegance intertwine. The mood then shifts in a burst of rhythmic vitality as Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas brasileiras No.1 unfolds, blending Brazilian folk-inspired motifs with Baroque structure. This dynamic concert offers a tapestry of sound that celebrates the cello’s full expressive range.
