About

Dutch mezzo-soprano Rosanne van Sandwijk studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Roberta Alexander and graduated "Cum Laude". Awards include the “Grachtenfestivalprijs” 2014 and the Oratorio Prize, the Staetshuys Fonds Prize and the Price of the Dutch National Opera at the 2010 International Vocal Competition s’Hertogenbosch. Currently she is coached by Margreet Honig and Anne Sofie von Otter.
 

Most recent highlights include her debut at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence as 2nd Lady/Die Zauberflöte, Cherubino at the Angers Nantes Opera, Berio’s Folk Songs with Het Gelders Orkest, a return to Dutch National Opera as Flowermaiden and 2nd Esquire in Parsifal, conducted by Marc Albrecht, her debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Bach’s Magnificat under the baton of Iván Fischer, Mendelsohn’s Lobgesang with the South Netherlands Philharmonic, Berlioz’ Les nuits d'été with Sinfonia Rotterdam, Haydn’s Arianna a Naxos with the Israel Camerata Jerusalem and solo concerts with Concerto Köln in Israel, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany.

With the Orchestra of the 18th Century, she has performed several Mozart productions, Annio in La Clemenza di Tito, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, the Great Mass in C and the concert aria Ch'io mi scordi di te, with Kristian Bezuidenhout.

Between 2013 and 2015, Rosanne van Sandwijk was ensemble member at Theater Kiel, singing roles such as Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Venus in Orpheus in der Unterwelt, Frau Reich in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, Flora in La Traviata, Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Olga in Eugene Onegin and Cybèle in Lully’s Atys. Her opera repertoire also includes Costanza in Haydn’s L’isola disabitata, Sesto in Giulio Cesare and Dido in Dido and Aeneas.

At De Nationale Opera Amsterdam, she has appeared in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, under the baton of Marc Minkowski, and Wagner’s Parsifal with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Iván Fischer.

Ms van Sandwijk’s concert repertoire ranges from Bach’s Passions and Cantatas to the main oratorios by Mendelssohn, Haydn, Saint-Saëns, Beethoven and Duruflé, which she has peformed with ensembles like the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Concerto d’ Amsterdam, Camerata Salzburg, Les Musiciens du Louvre and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Conductors she has worked with include Paul McCreesh, Jan Willem de Vriend, Louis Langrée, Markus Stenz and the late Sir Colin Davis.

A gifted recitalist, she is a frequent guest at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, with pianists including Malcolm Martineau, Julius Drake and Kristian Bezuidenhout. She performed at the Mannahan and Chipping Campden Festivals with Julius Drake and, most recently, at the Risør Festival in Norway. As a former Lauréat of the Académie Européenne de Musique in Aix-en-Provence she has also appeared in Paris, Dijon, Lille, Aix-en-Provence.

Highlights of the 2018/19 season include a return to De Nationale Opera as 2nd Lady/Die Zauberflöte, to the Concertgebouw for a recital with Julius Drake, Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Mozart’s Krönungsmesse with the Orchestre national d’Île de France under Anthony Hermus and Beethoven’s Symphony no 9 with Het Gelders Orkest under Claus Peter Flor.
