Roberto Frontali (Rome, 1958) is an Italian baritone.
His debut took place in 1986 at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome in the Agnese di Hohenstaufen by Gaspare Spontini. Since then, his career has led him to many opera houses around the world, including Covent Garden in London, the Met in New York, La Scala in Milan and Opéra Bastille in Paris.
At the Verdi Theater in Trieste in 1988 is Valentine in Faust, Count Danilo Danilowitsch in La vedova allegra, with Daniela Mazzucato, Luciana Serra, Max Renè Cosotti, Ariella Reggio and Elio Pandolfi directed by Gino Landi, and Prince Eleckij in La Tchaikovsky lady of spades; in 1989 he was Antonio in Linda di Chamounix, with Lucia Aliberti; in 1990 he was Miller in Luisa Miller and the baron of Valdeburgo in La foreigner, with Sara Mingardo; in 1994 he was Giorgio Germont in La traviata, with Alexandrina Pendatchanska; in 2005 he was Renato in Un ballo in maschera, with Marco Berti, directed by Renato Palumbo; in 2013 he was Baron Scarpia in Tosca, directed by Donato Renzetti.
At the La Fenice theater in Venice in 1989 he is Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, directed by Daniel Oren.
In 1991 in Bilbao he sang in La Cenerentola, with Lucia Valentini Terrani, Rockwell Blake and Ainhoa Arteta, and is Olivier in the filming in the Teatro Comunale of Bologna of Strauss' Capriccio, directed by Christian Thielemann with Raina Kabaivanska and Bruce Ford.
In the Bellini Theater of Catania, in 1991 he was Sharpless in the replica of "Madama Butterfly", directed by Oren and in 1992 he was Giorgio Germont in the shooting of "La traviata".
At the Wiener Staatsoper in 1992 he was Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, directed by Fabio Luisi, and Belcore in L'elisir d'amore, with Luca Canonici and Rolando Panerai directed by Marcello Viotti.
For the Metropolitan Opera House in New York he made his debut in November 1992 as Belcore in L'elisir d'amore with Enzo Dara; in 1994 he was Enrico in Lucia of Lammermoor in Cunningham Park in Queens, in Great Kills Park on Staten Island with Ramón Vargas and Paul Plishka, in Central Park and in Pelham Bay Park; in 1995 he was Germont in La traviata, Marcello in La bohème and Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Jennifer Larmore and Robert Lloyd; in 1998 he was Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Metropolitan directed by Carlo Rizzi; in 2000 he was Il conte di Luna in Il trovatore, with Neil Shicoff and Dolora Zajick; in 2002 he was Miller in Luisa Miller, with Barbara Frittoli and Denyce Graves, directed by James Levine; in 2005 he was Ford in Falstaff, with Bryn Terfel, directed by Levine; in 2009 he played Rigoletto, with Aleksandra Kurzak and Giuseppe Filianoti and Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur (opera) with Maria Guleghina and Plácido Domingo, reaching eighty-one performances at the Metropolitan in New York.

At the San Francisco Opera, in 1993 he was Riccardo in I puritani, with June Anderson and Maurizio Arena (conductor).
Still in Vienna in 1994 is Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, in 1995 he is Sir Riccardo Forth in I puritani, with Marcello Giordani and Edita Gruberová; in 2002 he was Giorgio Germont in La traviata; in 2006 he was Rodrigo in Don Carlo, with Ferruccio Furlanetto and Fabio Armiliato and the Duke of Nottingham in Roberto Devereux, with Joseph Calleja; in 2014 she is Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur, with Massimo Giordano and Angela Gheorghiu.
In 1996 he was Enrico Ashton in the shooting at the Comunale of Florence by Lucia di Lammermoor, directed by Zubin Mehta with Mariella Devia and Carlo Colombara, and in the first performance of the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo in the transfer of the Florentine Comunale.
At the Opéra National de Paris in 1996 he was Enrico Ashton in Lucia di Lammermoor, with Sumi Jo, directed by Bruno Campanella and in 2000 he was Giorgio Germont in La traviata, with Rolando Villazón.
For the Royal Opera House in London, in 1997 he was Figaro in The Barber of Seville at the Shaftesbury Theater; in 1999 Ford in Falstaff, with Desirée Rancatore, directed by Bernard Haitink of which a DVD exists; in 2002 the Duke of Nottingham in Roberto Devereux and in 2007 Stankar in Stiffelio, with José Cura.
In 1997 he was Filippo Visconti in the filming of "Beatrice di Tenda" at Bellini in Catania.
Still in Bilbao in 1998 he sings in Roberto Devereux and in 2012 in Nabucco, with Colombara.
At the Grand Théâtre in Geneva in 1999 he was Enrico Ashton in Lucia di Lammermoor with Devia and Giordani and in 2009 Simon Boccanegra with Alberto Gazale and Giacomo Prestia.
At the Arena di Verona he made his debut in 2000 as Giorgio Germont in Verdi's La traviata, a work he also performed in the years 2001 and 2013.
At the Chicago Opera in 2003 he was Giorgio Germont in La traviata, with Sir Andrew Davis (director).
Again in Venice on December 31, 2006 and January 1, 2007 she sings in the New Year's Concert in Venice with Dīmītra Theodosiou and Filianoti, broadcast by Rai 1; in 2008 he is Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, with Francesco Meli, of which there is a DVD; in 2010 she sang in Rigoletto with the Rancatore, directed by Myung-Whun Chung, protagonist of an episode of Prima della Prima of Rai 3.
In 1999 he played the role of the extraordinary Rossinian figure Figaro at the La Scala theater in Milan (protagonist of the opera the Barber of Seville). In 2008 at the Regio in Turin he was Rigoletto with Riccardo Zanellato, also brought on tour to Wiesbaden, directed by Gianandrea Noseda, and at the Opera House in Rome he was Enrico Ashton in Lucia di Lammermoor.

In 2010 he made his debut as Don Carlo di Vargas in La Forza del Destino at the Comunale in Florence, directed by Mehta with Violeta Urmana and Roberto Scandiuzzi, protagonist of the broadcast "Prima della Prima" on Rai 3, and is Sheriff Jack Rance in La fanciulla del West, directed by Bruno Bartoletti at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, broadcast on the "Prima della Prima" program on Rai 3.
In 2011 he was Don Carlo in Ernani, with Ferruccio Furlanetto at the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo in the transfer of the Municipal Theater of Bologna.
In 2012 he was Gianni Schicchi with Marie-Nicole Lemieux and Michele in Il tabarro at the Theater an der Wien, Il Conte di Luna in Il trovatore at the Comunale in Bologna, and Stankar in Stiffelio at the Teatro Regio di Parma (of which there is a DVD), broadcast on "Prima della Prima" by Rai 3.
At the Philharmonic Theater in Verona he made his debut in 2013 as of Ezio in Verdi's Attila with Amarilli Nizza. In the same year he is Rigoletto for the Deutsche Oper at the Rhein at the Opernhaus in Düsseldorf and at the Theater der Stadt in Duisburg, Nabucco at the Teatro Regio in Parma and at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Count Ankarström in A masked ball at the National Center for the Arts of the Beijing Show, Gianni Schicchi and Michele in Il tabarro in Copenhagen for the Royal Danish Opera, Simon Boccanegra at the Regio di Parma and Falstaff with Carmen Giannattasio, directed by James Conlon, at the Los Angeles Opera.
In 2014 he was Iago in Verdi's Otello, with Berti directed by Luisotti at the San Carlo Theater in Naples, taken over by RAI.
In his repertoire the classic Verdi roles (Simon Boccanegra, Giorgio Germont de La traviata, Rigoletto, the Conte di Luna de Il trovatore, etc.) but also roles ranging from Rossini (The Barber of Seville), to Bellini (Beatrice di Tenda , Il pirata), Donizetti (Lucia di Lammermoor, La Favorite), from Tchaikovsky (Eugenio Onieghin) to musical realism (Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur di Cilea).
