Richard Siegal is the founder and director of "the Bakery" (2006) and the "Ballet of Difference" (2016). Awarded a New York Dance and Performance Bessie Award, the German "Faust" theatre prize, the French S. A. C. D. prize, a Beaumarchais, the Mouson Award, and a Munich dance award, provides Richard Siegal for international attention due to its numerous work consisting of performances, projects with modern media, Workshops and publications. He has worked for artistic institutions such as the Bavarian State Ballet, Göteborg Operans Danskompani, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, São Paulo Dance Company, Bodytraffic, Festival d'automne, the Forsythe Company, Rencontres Chorégraphiques, Ircam, Centre Pompidou, YCAM, Tanz im August, ballet Frankfurt, Danspace/NYC, Théâtre National de Chaillot and the Ruhrtriennale. His work with Live musicians led to collaborations with Alberto Posadas (Glossopoeia), Diane Labrosse (Double Story), Lorenzo Bianchi (oPirates, Homo Ludens, Black Swan), Eric-Maria Couturier (Op. Infinity and Homo Ludens), Wolfgang Zamistil (Homo Ludens, As If Stranger), Arto Lindsay (Muscle) and Hubert Machnik (Civic Mimic). Working with architects and product designers includes personalities such as Konstantin Grcic (Unitxt), François Roche (Civic Mimic), Didier Faustino (Still Life, the World to Darkness and to Me), Virginie Mira (Stranger Trilogy, Glossopoeia), Peter Zuspan (Multinatural (blackout), Muscle) and Alexander Kada (Venice Biennale of Architecture). With Carsten Nicolai (alias Alva Noto), he developed Unitxt and In a Landscapefür the Bavarian state ballet. With Alexandra Bertaut, Bernhard Wilhelm, Becca McCharen/Chromat, Marta Jakubowski and Edda Guddmundottir, Siegal cooperated for costume and fashion design.

Richard Siegal was Artist-in-Residence at ZKM/Karlsruhe, at Bennington College, at Baryshnikov Arts Center, Festspielhaus St. Pölten and Muffatwerk/Munich. From 2005 to 2015, he worked as an Associated Artist for the Forsythe Company. Siegal is a MacDowell Fellow and honorary member of the "Benois de la Danse". In the recent past, he directed Leonard Bernstein's Mass, which he developed together with the actress Sandra Hüller and Carsten Nicolai as a Virtual Reality Installation. The Ensemble of the Schauspiel Köln will be touring with this project, initially to the Holland Festival. A full-length documentary about his company "Ballet of Difference" was produced by the television station Arte in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and at DOK.fest Munich presented for the first time. For the first time, he collaborates with the Staatsballett Berlin and, together with the dancers, develops the Oval creation.
