Renato Miani, from Friuli, graduated in composition with Daniele Zanettovich at the Conservatory of Udine. Later he attended master classes with Fabio Nieder in Trieste and with Wolfgang Rihm at the Salzburg Mozarteum. He has won several awards in national and international competitions: 2nd prize at the International Sacred Music Competition in Friborg, Switzerland 1st prize at the International Composition Competition for Choir of Toulouse, Spain; 1st prize at the International Competition “V. Bucchi ”of Rome; 1st prize at the International Competition “F. Schubert ”of Vienna; 1st prize at the International Competition "Wiener Sommer-Seminar für neue Musik" in Vienna; 3rd prize (1st and 2nd not assigned) at the National Competition “F. Margola ”by Orzinuovi; 1st prize at the National Competition “R. Toscano ”of Pescara and 2nd prize at Guido d’Arezzo (1st not assigned).

Selected for the Gaudeamus Prize, it was also reported in the Contests: “M. Zafred ”of Rome (single prize not awarded), at the Composition for Composition for Clarinet of Perugia and at the“ Vienna Modern Masters ”.

He is Professor of Composition at the “J. Tomadini "of Udine and has taught at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University of Udine, in Gorizia.

In 2006 and 2010 he was a guest lecturer at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
