The Dutch soprano, Renate Arends, graduated from the Royal Conservatory of The Netherlands in The Hague and completed further studies with the International Opera Centrum Nederland where she has interpreted the roles of Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Constance in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, Drusilla in l’Incoronazione di Poppea, Fanny in la Cambiale di Matrimonio under the musical direction of Kenneth Montgomery, and Adèle in Die Fledermaus with the conductor Ransom Wilson.

Renate Arends made her opera debut with De Nederlandse Opera in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo in Pierre Audi’s production. Since then she has been invited by Music hall Belgium where she performed the roles of Musetta in La Bohème and Frasquita in Georges Bizet's Carmen conducted by Rudolf Werthen and by the RBO she has performed Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice. With the Residentie Orkest Den Haag, conducted by George Phelivanian, she has sung Nora in Riders to the Sea and with Opera Trionfo she appeared as Thérèse in Les Mamelles de Tirésias conducted by Ed Spanjaard (this performance was recorded for a CD and released on May 2003). Recent appearances include the roles of Nella in Gianni Schicchi, Zaide in l’Europe Galante, and Astaroth in Die Königin Von Saba as well as Lubanara in W.A. Mozart's Der Stein der Weisen and Poppea in Agrippina both with the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam on tour in The Netherlands and Europe.

Recent engagements include, among others; Thérèse (Les Mamelles de Tirésias) at the Opera of Toulon - France, W.A. Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, The title role in Arthur Honegger’s Sainte Alméenne with Opera Transparant as well as concerts of contemporary works with the Dutch Schönberg Ensemble.

Renate Arends is also very active on the concert stage and is a regular guest of the Saturday -Matinee opera series at the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam. With the Noord Nederlands Orkest she sang Miroir de Peine by Hendrik Andriessen conducted by Roland Kieft and with the Utrecht’s Barok Consort she has interpreted the title-role in Johann Mattheson’s Cleopatra. Other Oratorio repertoire includes the soprano arias from J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and the Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, George Frideric Handel's The Messiah and the big Mass in C by W.A. Mozart. Future concert engagements include a.o. Robert Schumann’s Requiem with the Dutch Radio Symphony Orchestra and W.A. Mozart’s C minor Mass with the Residentie Bachorkest and Residentie Bachkoor of The Netherlands.

Renate Arends was invited by the San Antonio Early Music Festival (USA) for a performance of Jephte by G. Carissimi conducted by Paul McCreesh and by the OK Mozart Festival (USA) to perform the role of Adטle (Die Fledermaus). In the Netherlands she has also performed with Slagwerkgroep Den Haag, Het Schönberg Ensemble, Het Nieuwe Ensemble and with ASKO ensemble, all well known ensembles for their interpretation of contemporary repertoire.
