Réka Echerer was born in Vienna, Austria, where she began her professional ballet training at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School and for musical theatre at the Performing Center Austria.
At the age of fifteen, she moved to the U.S. to continue her studies at the Virginia School of the Arts. She holds her BFA in Dance Performance and a Minor in Psychology from SUNY Purchase College. Whilst studying at SUNY Purchase, she spent a semester abroad at the Taipei National University for the Arts in Taiwan, and attended summer programs in New York with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Vienna with the International Dance Festival Impulstanz, and in Locarno, Italy. She has performed with the Vienna State Opera, Kizuna Dance, Xion Dance, Kathleen Helm and Dancers, and performed works by Merce Cunningham, Rosalind Newman, Gabrielle Lamb, and Aszure Barton. She is currently dancing with the Metropolitan Opera, Sue Bernhard Danceworks and Megan Williams.
