About

Born in Amsterdam - 23 June 1955.

After the Vossius Gymnasium, go through the Amsterdam Conservatory:
After lessons with Wim van de Braak and a percussion week at Queekhoven I studied for 4 years with the percussionists of the Concertgebouw Orchestra (Jan Labordus and Jan Pustjens). Drum lessons from Ton Rooyers and guest lessons from John Engels, Han Bennink, and Billy Cobham.

Then (1979) studied for 1 year at Berklee College of Music with Gary Chaffee, Bill Pierce and Alan Dawson, among others.
Played during training in National Youth Orchestra and Dutch Wind Ensemble, and learned a lot from jam sessions in the Melkweg (Cees van der Laarse and Jan Jacobs), jobs that my father (Ruud Bos) asked me for and bands I founded myself (Gongossa) . Martin van Duynhoven asked me for his project "In A Machine Gun". I also played with the Jose Marcello - Big Band and the Midland Big Band led by Gert-Jan van den Dolder.

After that he started as a studio musician (including Fluitsma & van Tijn) and as accompanist for various artists and groups, such as Rob de Nijs, Bubbling Brown Sugar, Louis van Dijk, Samantha Jones, Greetje Kauffeld and many others.
In the jazz circuit I played with Hans Dulfer, the Waterland Ensemble (Canada tour '88), Slide, Sticks and Pedals (with Ben Gerritsen, Bart van Lier and "Candy-man" Carlo de Wijs), Future Shock (the group) Maarten van Norden and Jan Kuiper), Frits Landesbergen, Ben van Dungen, Jarmo Hoogendijk, Fred Leeflang, Karel Boehlee, Toon Roos, Cor Bakker and many others.

In 1983 I received my first real film music assignment for a film by Matthijs van Heijningen (Vogelmens) and I received a lot of work; in 1984 I was appointed percussion teacher (+ drums) at the Muzieklyceum, where I was also asked to join the Advisory Board

In 1986 I was appointed Principal Subject Teacher in Percussion (L.M.) and Methodology at the Conservatory in Zwolle. That same year I was named the second Fusion drummer in the Netherlands in the "Polls" of the Slagwerkkrant.

In 1989 I am a percussionist with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, conducted by Richard Dufallo
(including the famous "Rhapsody In Blue" in the original Gershwin arrangement) involved in the opening of the Uitmarkt, live from the Dam in front of TV. There was also played with 120 saxophonists and the Aurelia Quartet "the Blues".

In 1990, with my own “Trio Peter Berk” (with Henk Meutgeert on the piano and with Simon Planting on acoustic bass), I provided weekly radio broadcasts with music, which was prolonged for 1 year due to success.

In 1991 (up to and including 1998) I worked at Toon Hermans (led by Coen van Orsouw), and at Toon I learned to listen to music in a completely different way. I also played four times at the North Sea Jazz Festival and at festivals in Canada (Loek Dikker Waterland Ensemble), America, Hungary, France (Salon de Jazz) - and in many jazz clubs, studios and theaters in Europe and England.

Since 1999 I have had an endorsement (artist agreement) at Sonor.
Since September 2002 I have been a member of the Jazz working group of the Dutch Tone Artists Bond NTB
In recent years I have mainly worked in the theater with Robert Long, (orchestra conducted by Erik Vlasblom) and the season (2002-2003) in the American Songbook Production "Sinatra That's Life" (orchestra conducted by Ruud Bos).

The 2003-2004 season was dominated by TelkensWeerHetDorp, the homage to Friso Wiegersma, praised by wonderful reviews and enthusiastic audiences. Featuring Jenny Arean, Tony Neef, Joke de Kruif and Marnix Kappers (orchestra conducted by Ruud Bos).

Season 2004-2005 there was a reprise of TelkensWeerHetDorp in the Werktheater in Amsterdam and I shared the drum stool with André van Damme in the orchestra of accordionist Eddy van Damme that does theater performances for "de Zonnebloem", featuring Henk Poort, Lucy de Lange, Dick Rienstra, Alma Nieto and Arie Cupé.

Fall 2005: Dancing With the Stars - 3 raids for Ton op 't Hof in Koos Mark's band.

Season 2005 - 2006: De Zonnebloem with the Dutch Divas (Sjouk Smit, Marga Bult and Gemma van Eck) featuring Wim Rijken.

2006 - 2007 season: De Zonnebloem production "Heilig Vuur" with Danny De Munk, Harrie Slinger, Ellis van Laarhoven and Pamela Teevis.

Since September 1, 2003 I am a timpanist / percussionist with the Dutch Customs Harmony conducted by Frenk Rouschop.

I also participated in (studio / concert) projects of, among others, Jeroen Sleyfer (Five Easy Pieces, Wizard of Oz), Rob van Dijk (various concerts), Henk Pool (including NCRV school project, Ben Ketting), Rob and LeeAnn Vermeulen (family Knoest) and Jan Mulder (Jan Mulder Consort).
