About
Peter Aderhold (*1966 in Berlin) is a German composer and conductor.
From 1982 to 1988, Peter Aderhold studied conducting at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin with the main subjects (with Horst Förster, Olaf Koch, Heinz Rögner) and composition (Günter Kochan). In 1988 he graduated from the state examination in composition with ballet music Diana, which he premiered as a conductor on the occasion of the GDR music festival in Berlin in 1990 with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. From 1988 to 1993 he worked as Kapellmeister at the Rostocker Theater, then in 1994/95 to switch to the United stages Krefeld / Mönchengladbach as Kapellmeister. Since 1991 he has worked as chief conductor of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Youth Orchestra (among others first prize of the competition "Jugend und Musik in Wien" 1997).
From 1995 to July 2000 he was the first Kapellmeister and deputy general music director at the Municipal Theatre Bremerhaven. Since August 2000 he has lived in Berlin as a freelance composer and conductor. He was responsible for the musical direction of several productions (including in the Penal Colony by Philip Glass and Bremer Freiheit by Adriana Hölszky) at the Berlin Chamber Opera. As a guest conductor, he also worked with the Staatskapelle Berlin, Dresdner Philharmonie, Staatskapelle Schwerin, Schweriner Philharmonie and the Hallische Philharmonie. Since 2003 he has been head of the Berlin Academic Orchestra.
Aderhold wrote symphonic works, and chamber Opera Odysseus and the Stranger for the Zurich Opera house (2001) and the Opera Luther, on the occasion of the opening of the Opera house in Erfurt. In 2008, he performed his composition Fanfare for orchestra with the Berlin Academic Orchestra on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. For the same orchestra he wrote in 2011 Meditation – Concerto for Alphorn and orchestra. His Concerto for one Player with two Saxophones and Orchestra, written for Branford Marsalis, was performed on 12 December 1895. February 2012 in Frankfurt am Main by the Frankfurt Opera and Museum orchestra under Sebastian Weigle premiered.[1]
From 2011 to 2012, Aderhold was a visiting professor at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen "Konrad Wolf" in Babelsberg (Satztechnik, Instrumentation und Dirigieren im Studiengang Filmmusik) and is a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin (instrumental studies, tone-rate, hearing-training).
On April 22, 2016, his second opera, Orlando, the novel by Virginia Woolf, was premiered at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. It sang: Milda Tubelyte (Orlando), Lydia Moellenhoff (Virgina), Mirella Hagen (Sascha u. a.), Anne Schuldt (Pepita, etc.), Matthias Taurus (Queen, etc.), Rossen Krastev (Nick Greene, among others)
Prizes and awards
In 1984, he received the third prize at the composition competition of the GDR-music days for "music for flute and orchestra". For his ballet music "Diana" he received the "prize of criticism"in 1990. Together with the State Youth Orchestra, he was awarded the culture prize of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1997. In 2000 he won the composition competition "Teatro minimo" of the Zurich Opera House and the Bavarian State Opera Munich.
