Born in 1982 in a cosmopolitan family, Paul Montag was introduced to the piano at the age of 4 years. Two years later he joined the Conservatoire de Boulogne-Billancourt in the class of Louis-Claude Thirion where he obtained, at age 11, a First Medal unanimously. At the age of 13, he was admitted to the National Conservatory of Music in Paris where he graduated from the classes of Jean-François Heisser, Marie-Josèphe Jude and Rena Shereshevskaya for the piano as well as those of Daria Hovora and Michaël Hentz for music of room.
Subsequently, he perfected with Christian Ivaldi and Chantal Debuchy at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris where he obtained the diploma of execution and the diploma of concert and receives the advice of François-René Duchâble, Jean- Claude Pennetier, Paul Badura-Skoda, during Master Classes.
Winner of the Cziffra Foundation and the Charles Oulmont Prize of the Fondation de France, he was invited at his age to perform as a soloist and chamber musicist at renowned festivals throughout Europe (Orangery Festival of Seals, L'Epau, Colmar, Rheingau, Nohant, MusicaSiena) as well as in the United States (Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center) without forgetting the Parisian halls (Gaveau, Cortot, Mogador, Pleyel), Asia, the Middle East and Maghreb.
Passionate about solo repertoire as well as chamber and vocal music (he has performed on stage with many partners, Raphael Sévère, Pumeza Matshikiza, Rolando Villazon, Felicity Lott, Christian Ivaldi, Jean-Louis Cappezali, Guy Touvron , Yan Levionnois, Jean Ferrandis ...), he notably recorded the piano music of Paul Hindemith (Choc Classica), Claude Debussy, the complete melodies of Albert Roussel, and the melodies of Charles-Marie Widor and Félicien David and regularly participates in recordings on the French and foreign airwaves.
Professor of chamber music at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris and accompaniment at the Conservatoire de Ville d'Avray; he likes to share and transmit this musical diversity to new generations and especially during Master Classes in France and abroad; as well as collaborating regularly with the composers of his time for contemporary creations.
