Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto was established in October 1966 and in over fifty years of activity has established itself as one of the leading Italian orchestras in the most prestigious concert venues in Italy and abroad.
Since 1983 the artistic and musical direction of the Orchestra has been entrusted to Peter Maag (principal conductor, 1983-2001), Bruno Giuranna, Guido Turchi, Mario Brunello (musical director, 2002-2003), Filippo Juvarra. In September 2015, Marco Angius was appointed musical and artistic director.
In his long artistic life the Orchestra has collaborations with the most famous names in international concertism, among which are S. Accardo, P. Anderszewski, M. Argerich, V. Ashkenazy, R. Buchbinder, R. Chailly, R. Goebel , P. Herreweghe, C. Hogwood, L. Kavakos, T. Koopman, A. Lonquich, R. Lupu, Sir N. Marriner, M. Maisky, V. Mullova, AS Mutter, M. Perahia, I. Perlman, S. Richter, M. Rostropovich, K. Zimerman.
The OPV is the only Concerted Orchestral Institution (I.C.O.) active in the Veneto region and realizes about 120 concerts a year, with its own season in Padua, concerts in the Region, in Italy for the major Concert and Festival Companies.
In the last Seasons she also distinguished herself in the operatic repertoire, receiving unanimous appreciation in different productions of Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro and Così fan tutte by Mozart, The Barber of Seville, Il turco in Italia and Il Signor Bruschino by Rossini, L ' elixir d'amore, Don Pasquale, Lucia di Lammermoor and Lucrezia Borgia by Donizetti, Rigoletto by Verdi, La voix humaine by Poulenc and Il telefono by Menotti.
Since 1987, the OPV has undertaken a vast recording activity, producing over sixty recordings for the most important labels.
