Omar Rodriguez Calvo (born 1973 in Matanzas) is a Cuban double bass player, who has emerged especially in the field of jazz.

Rodriguez Calvo received a musical education as a child in his native city. Already at that time he played in a band with Ramón Valle and the drummer Ernesto Simpson. Between 1988 and 1994 he studied double bass, electric bass, classical and popular music as well as jazz in Havana.

At the age of 17, he began performing with Argelia Fragoso to later play with Carlos Maza and since 1992 in the trio of Ramón Valle. In 1994 he moved to Hamburg. From there he worked with artists such as Joe Gallardo (Latino Blue), Nils Landgren, Julio Barreto, Horacio "El Negro" Hernández, Perico Sambeat, Roy Hargrove, Mike Stern, Leon Gurvitch, Gerardo Núñez, Chano Domínguez, Ulf Wakenius, Orange Blue, Wolf Kerschek, Anette Maiburg, Diego Piñera, the formation Classica Cubana and the hr big band (Parcifal Goes Habanna).

The pianist Martin Tingvall brought him in 2003 in the Tingvall Trio, with whom he was on tour internationally worldwide. As a studio musician he also worked with Daniel Irigoyen, with Jan Degenhardt, with Wolf Biermann, with Ilukan Y Su Tanda Mayor and with Sandy Lacera.
