The baritone Olaf Bär and studied at the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden. After his first prize at the Walther Gruner competition for German song in London, he began his international career as a concert and Song singer.
Olaf Bär's successful career on the opera stage is documented by his well-known partners at the desk, including Sir Georg Solti, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Bernard Haitink, Kurt Masur, Seiji Ozawa, Sir Colin Davis, Hartmut Haenchen, Riccardo Muti, Peter Schreier, Jeffrey Tate, John Eliot Gardiner, Franz Welser-Möst, Adam Fischer, Marc Minkowski, Fabio Luisi and Pierre Boulez. He was also influenced by directors such as Joachim Herz, Ruth Berghaus, Jürgen Flimm, Hans Neuenfels, Andreas Homoki, Sven-Eric Bechtolf and Patrice Chéreau. Olaf Bär was associated with a guest contract at the Staatsoper Dresden for many years. Guest performances led him to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, to the Milan Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, the opera houses in Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Zurich, Chicago, Rome, Naples and Turin, as well as to festivals in Bayreuth, Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence, Japan and Glyndebourne, the Vienna Festival and the Ruhrtriennale.
Numerous recordings on Labels such as EMI, Decca, Philips and others document his singing work. Since 2004 he has held a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden.
