Founded in August 2015, the Northwestern Normal University “Five-tone” Choir has more than 40 members, including teachers and students of the School of Music, Northwestern Normal University, and artists of Gansu Province that have received professional training on chorus singing and vocal singing.
With full support of the Gansu Provincial Department of Education and Department of Culture and under the guidance of the Provincial Musicians Association, the choir sings Chinese and foreign classic choral works and chorus commissions with “high standards, strict self-requirements and a broad field of vision” in order to “carry forward excellent culture and spreading elegant art” to promote the development of Gansu’s chorus art cause. Over the years, under the careful guidance of Principal Conductor and Professor CHEN Hu, Vice President of the Gansu Musicians Association, President of the Federation for Choral Music, Gansu Musicians Association, and Dean of the School of Music, Northwest Normal University, and Artistic Director HU Wenhui, a professor at the School of Music, Northwest Normal University, with the unremitting efforts of the members, the choir has rehearsed trans-boundary stage choruses including Swan Lyre, Random Thoughts of Flowers, Yearning for Tibet, Melody of The Sea, Pastoral Song, Parting at Yangguan Pass, Praise to Eight Horses, When A Child is Born, Pizzicato Polka and Jingle Bells Through the Ages, receiving high appreciation and praise from domestic and foreign experts and counterparts. The choir won the Gold Award in the “Maritime Silk Road” International Chorus Competition in 2017.
