Nicolas Legoux is a French-Cambodian operatic bass renowned for his interpretations of iconic roles in the works of Wagner and Verdi. Born in Nantes, France, he began his musical journey studying piano and organ before transitioning to vocal training in Paris. He further honed his craft in Austria, attending the University of Music in Graz and later the University of Vienna, where he studied under esteemed artists such as KS Marjana Lipovšek and KS Eliane Coelho. His development was enriched by master classes with notable figures like Régine Crespin and Graham Johnson.
Legoux's career is marked by a diverse repertoire and performances across prominent European opera houses and festivals. He has portrayed roles such as Monterone in Verdi's "Rigoletto" under the baton of Jérémie Rhorer at the Musikfest Bremen and La Côte-Saint-André, and has appeared in productions of "Hamlet" at the Opéra Comique in Paris, "Lohengrin" at the Tiroler Festspiele in Erl, and "Salome" and "La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein" at Oper Köln. His versatility extends to roles like Colline in "La Bohème" at the Opéra Comique, Marke in "Tristan und Isolde," Angelotti in "Tosca," and Ceprano in "Rigoletto" at the Longborough Festival. During his tenure with the Staatstheater Darmstadt ensemble in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, he performed as Daland in "Der fliegende Holländer," Sparafucile in "Rigoletto," Don Alfonso in "Così fan tutte," Zuniga in "Carmen," and Biterolf in "Tannhäuser."In addition to his stage performances, Legoux has contributed to recorded works, including Johann Strauss's "Die Göttin der Vernunft" and a DVD/Blu-Ray of Ambroise Thomas's "Hamlet," both released by Naxos.
