The New vocal soloists Stuttgart (NVS) are a chamber ensemble of seven singers, which specialises in contemporary vocal music and music theatre. The Ensemble works under the roof of the institution music of the centuries, based in the Theaterhaus Stuttgart.
History
The new vocal soloists were founded in 1984 by the conductor Manfred Schreier. The Ensemble was initially occupied with twelve solo voices and was in the Tradition of Clytus Gottwalds Schola Cantorum. Since 2000, the new vocal soloists act as a chamber music Ensemble without a conductor.
The seven concert and opera soloists specialise in the development of new vocal techniques and articulations, which they develop in close cooperation with composers. Every year, 20 to 30 new works are created for the Ensemble. Each season, the new Vocalsolists complete about 35 concert tours with around 60 performances at international Festivals and concert series such as ECLAT festival Neue Musik Stuttgart, Donaueschinger Musiktage, MaerzMusik (Berlin), Festival d'automne, Salzburg Festival, Warsaw autumn, Lucerne Festival, Biennale Venice, Ultima (Oslo) or the festival van Vlaanderen (Ghent).
Since the beginning of her chamber music work, the new vocal soloists have premiered well over 200 specially written works for her by composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, Salvatore Sciarrino, Oscar Bianchi, Dieter Schnebel, Georges Aperghis, Lucia Ronchetti, José María Sánchez Verdú, Carola Bauckholt, Andreas Dohmen, Jennifer Walshe, Friedrich Cerha, Nikolaus Brass, Beat Furrer, Rebecca Saunders, Martin Schüttler, Brian Ferneyhough, Oscar strasnoy, and Wolfgang Rihm.
In addition to participating in major music theatre projects, the singers develop the vocal chamber music theatre in particular. These include productions such as" history "by Oscar Strasnoy," Freizeitspektakel "by Hannes Seidl and Daniel Kötter," visions ficciones "with works by Elena Mendoza, José María Sánchez-Verdú and Michael Hirsch," centrepiece "by Luca Francesconi," two scenes for 7 voices "by Friedrich Cerha or" Pinocchio, una storia parallel " by Lucia Ronchetti.
In interdisciplinary projects, the singers work regularly with visual artists, writers, video artists and experts for electronic music together. With the project" Escalier du chant " by the conceptual artist Olaf Nicolai, the new vocal soloists have performed so far in the Munich Pinakothek der Moderne, in Salzburg and in the Louvre in Paris.
