With its string circumference, the cello easily approaches the lowest, barely singable tone of a good choir bass and can advance into the highest soprano ranges. In terms of tonal range it lacks nothing - not to mention its rich palette of sounds. Cellists can sometimes do without their colleagues and replace almost an entire orchestra. This is how the cello group of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra does it, which made its debut in May 2017 as an independent ensemble in the Elbphilharmonie Great Hall and has been returning here regularly since then.
With arrangements of popular pieces of music, written especially for and in part by the members of the ensemble, the NDR ElphCellists take the audience on a journey through different epochs and genres of music history - full of poetry, magical sounds, spirited rhythms, with a bit of nostalgia and also a touch of humor.
